The elephant has been Laos national animal for a very long time since Laos was known as the land of a million elephants (Lan Xang). From many hundred of years elephants have been the symbol of prosperity and represent the strength of the nation. Lao people pay their respect for this beautiful majestic animal through festivals and ceremonies for centuries.
Previously, those captive elephant has been used for work in the logging and riding while they has not given a proper care afterward of work, they have been served in the negative way of working for business for the logs transportation along the rock of forest pathways to the village and they were used to serve for a riding from time to time by visitors in the hot temperature days of weather, by serving the work for many years they became very skinny with less of care.
Luang Prabang Elephant New Home is opened by team of Lao people to save those captive elephants with good care. We are attempting to create a safe home with good environment for captive elephants to live in.
